Stacy Schmitt, MSN, RN teaches in the UW–Madison School of Nursing undergraduate program. Her experience includes school, parish, and long-term care nursing, and working with Aging and Disability Resource Centers and other agencies to increase supports for people living with dementia.
“As an educator in both the long-term care setting and at the university level, I see how eye opening it can be for students and staff to understand the complexities of dementia,” says Schmitt. “I also try to help family members understand dementia, so they can better take care of their loved ones. The role of the nurse is pivotal to the continuum of care for an individual with dementia.”
